Churchfields Road tip in Beckenham opens daily, from 7am on weekdays, but needs a booking and shuts 25, 26 Dec and 1 Jan. Waldo Road reopens mid-November.

Bromley residents have one full-service tip open at the moment: Churchfields Road in Beckenham. It is open seven days a week, and you must book a slot before you go. The borough’s main site, Waldo Road in Bromley, has been shut since February 2025 and is due to reopen in the middle of November, also by booking only. Until then, a weekend-only site on Baths Road takes bulky items, but only by appointment.

Christmas 2026 closure days to plan around: Churchfields shuts on Friday 25 December, Saturday 26 December and Friday 1 January 2027. The council’s page gives these as fixed dates. It does not say whether Monday 28 December, this year’s substitute Boxing Day bank holiday, runs bank holiday hours. If you plan to go that day, check the booking system for slots.

The rules at Churchfields

  • Bromley residents only. Staff will ask for ID showing your address, such as a council tax bill, utility bill or driving licence. Without it you are charged £3.
  • Cars, bikes and people on foot are allowed. Cyclists use the walkway. Commercial and signwritten vehicles are not permitted.
  • DIY waste is limited. Each household may bring up to 100 litres, which fits in two 50-litre bags, or one large item up to 200cm by 75cm by 70cm, free on each of up to four visits in a four-week period. Carpets, plasterboard, soil and turf, and some wood and flooring carry limits and charges.
  • Not accepted: asbestos, car parts, commercial waste, fire extinguishers, gas canisters, hazardous or liquid waste, and tyres.

Vans, pick-ups and hire vehicles

Tippers, Luton vans and anything over 3.5 tonnes gross weight are turned away. Vans, pick-ups, vehicles more than 2m tall, minibuses, campervans and cars with no side or rear windows may be let in, but the driver may have to sign a declaration that the waste is household waste from their own home. Hire vans up to 2m tall are allowed if you bring proof of hire (vehicle restrictions).

Waldo Road: reopening in November

Waldo Road closed to residents on Monday 3 February 2025 for depot upgrade works (council open letter). The council said on 20 August 2026 that it will reopen in November, “anticipated to be in the middle of the month”, with the exact date “announced nearer the time”. A booking system will run when it opens. The council says the centre will reopen “in a slightly reconfigured way” because a paper storage hangar is being moved (London Borough of Bromley, 20 August 2026). Opening hours for the reopened site have not been published.

Baths Road weekend site, until Waldo Road reopens

The temporary weekend Reuse and Recycling Centre is reached from Baths Road, Bromley BR2 9RB. It is open by booking only, on Saturdays from 8.30am to 3pm and Sundays from 8.30am to midday (London Borough of Bromley). It takes mattresses, furniture, sofas and other upholstered items, scrap metal, and large and small electricals. It does not take DIY or construction waste, dry recycling, garden waste, oil, paint or clothes. You cannot arrive on foot or by bike.

The council says the Baths Road arrangement stops when Waldo Road reopens.

Garden waste sites: the last weekends

The council’s weekend green garden waste sites are closing for the winter. They take bagged garden waste only, with ID showing your address:
