IZ / TRACE, a one-afternoon show at Ripley Arts Centre on Sunday 15 November, 2pm to 5pm: paintings, jewellery, clay and video honouring the late Şelale Yılal.

A one-afternoon exhibition at Ripley Arts Centre on Sunday 15 November pays tribute to the late artist Şelale Yılal, showing her paintings alongside work by three artists whose lives and careers were linked with hers.

IZ / TRACE runs from 2pm to 5pm at the Bromley Arts Trust’s centre at 24 Sundridge Avenue, BR1 2PX. It is organised by the London Abkhaz-Adyghe Cultural Association, a London group for the Circassian and Abkhazian community, which says the show brings together “painting, design, video and brick art, exploring themes of memory, identity, creativity and friendship”.

Alongside Yılal’s work are pieces by Yeşim Trışpha, Ergün Synduk and Ahmet Tayyar Vako. The organisers’ press release does not give a price or say that booking is needed.

What is in the show

According to the association’s press release, the exhibition gathers “paintings, jewellery, architectural imagery carved into clay, and video works” that “explore how time, place and belonging shape the traces we leave in human life”.

The press kit pairs each artist with a medium:

  • Şelale Yılal: painting
  • Ahmet Tayyar Vako: painting
  • Yeşim Trışpha: Circassian jewellery
  • Ergün Synduk: an architectural image carved into clay

“A story reconnects through the traces of different artists,” the release says. “Through personal stories, diverse materials and artistic languages, these works create a shared narrative.”

It describes the afternoon as “a story that began together” meeting again “through different forms of artistic expression”, and says the show “invites visitors not only to look back, but also to reflect on what we carry forward and what we leave behind”.
