Bromley's switch-on is on Sunday 15 November 2026, free and no ticket needed. It starts in The Glades, moves to the High Street stage and ends with fireworks.

Bromley town centre switches its Christmas lights on Sunday 15 November 2026. It is free, there is no ticket, and it ends with fireworks over the High Street. The date and the shape of the day come from Your Bromley’s own event page, read on 3 September 2026.

The date, and a warning about one listing

The organiser is Your Bromley, the town centre business improvement district, with support from The Glades. Its event page says: “this year the switch-on returns on Sunday 15 November, bigger, brighter and still completely free.” Check it against a calendar and it holds: 15 November 2026 is a Sunday.

There is a snag on the BID’s own events calendar, worth knowing before you diary anything. The Christmas Switch-On card there carries a date chip reading 28 NOV above body text reading “Sunday 15 November 2026”. The two disagree, and the chip is the one that is wrong: 28 November 2026 is a Saturday, while the dedicated event page and the card’s own text both say Sunday 15 November. Go with 15 November.

Three years, three third Sundays in November. If you are planning around it in future years, that is the pattern.

What happens on the day

The organiser gives the timing as “afternoon into evening” and nothing more precise yet. The running order is:

  • The celebrations start inside The Glades, where the shopping centre’s own lights go on with live performances.
  • The programme moves out onto the High Street, with local school choirs and dance groups, live bands, roaming performers and guests on the stage through the afternoon.
  • The main switch-on closes the stage programme, followed by a fireworks finale.

Alongside the stage there is a funfair, market stalls, street food and a Christmas bar. The full stage line-up and timings are announced in November, so the acts and the exact switch-on time are the two things still missing.

How long the wait is, going on last year. In 2025 The Glades half ran 1pm to 2pm with the centre’s own switch-on at 1.30pm, the High Street stage ran 2pm to 6.30pm, and the town centre lights came on at 6.25pm with the fireworks finale, after a countdown led by a named local hero. Fifteen acts filled the gap, from Parish C of E and Valley primary schools early on to the Churchill Theatre panto cast at 5.20pm and Sydnie Christmas at 6pm (2025 running order).

If you are bringing small children, that is the useful detail: the High Street stage opens about four and a half hours before the lights actually go on. The Glades hour at the start is the short version.

In 2024 the comedian and presenter Tom Allen “topped off a day full of entertainment and excitement”, with the local hero slot going to Rob Warburton for coaching children’s rugby at Westcombe Park (Your Bromley, 19 November 2024).

Getting there and parking

The stage sits on the pedestrianised section of Bromley High Street, already closed to traffic, so there is no road closure order to work around and nothing published in the council’s notices for the day. The practical problem is the same as any busy Sunday in the town centre: the car parks fill.

The Hill on Beckenham Lane is the largest at 340 spaces, and its £5.80 all-day cap applies from 7.30am to 6.29pm, after which a flat £1.50 evening tariff takes over, so arriving late afternoon costs a fraction of arriving at lunchtime. Council car parks in Bromley are among the cheapest in London and almost everything is paid through RingGo rather than a machine. Bromley South and Bromley North stations are both a short walk from the High Street, and Bromley South has the faster London services.

Beckenham: the lights depend on a fundraiser, and last year’s fell short

Beckenham’s position is worth stating plainly, because it is not guaranteed the way the town centre’s is. Beckenham’s High Street lights are paid for by donations, raised by a volunteer Beckenham Christmas Lights Committee working with the Copers Cope Area Residents’ Association and local businesses.

The 2025 appeal is a matter of public record. It opened on 28 August 2025, asked for £24,000, and closed on Boxing Day having raised £16,423.66 from 335 donations, so roughly £7,600 short of what it set out to collect (JustGiving).

CCARA explained where the money goes when a resident asked whether buying lights outright would be cheaper than hiring them. Its answer, in October 2025: the lights were hired, and “the primary costs of the scheme are associated with installation, insurance, stress testing fixtures, electrical testing and the lights themselves”. Bought lights would still need storing, maintaining and annually testing by a lighting company (CCARA).

No 2026 appeal has been launched. CCARA’s news archive runs to July 2026 with nothing since, and last year’s appeal was already live by late August. The committee said in 2025 that it needed “a good portion of the target by mid-October” to get the lights ordered in time, which puts the same deadline in play this year with a month less run-up.

The rest of the borough

Orpington. Orpington 1st, the town’s business improvement district, has published nothing. Its events page carried an empty What’s On list when we checked on 3 September 2026, over both http and https. Orpington has had a switch-on in past years, so this is an absence of publishing rather than proof of an absence of event. Expect a date in October.

Chislehurst. The village’s festive fixture is its Christmas Market, and that one is confirmed: Sunday 22 November 2026, on the High Street and in the Old Chapel. Details on our Bromley Christmas markets page.

One piece of council paperwork

If you have ever wondered why some parades get lights and others do not, part of the answer is a licence. Bromley Council requires written consent before festive lights or Christmas decorations are attached to anything on the public highway, under its temporary highway licences scheme. A traders’ association that misses that step does not get to hang anything over the street.
