Bromley FC has appointed Karl Robinson as first team manager on a long-term contract. He takes charge before Saturday's FA Cup tie with Rotherham United.

Bromley Football Club has appointed Karl Robinson as its first team manager on a long-term contract. The club announced it on Thursday morning, two weeks after Andy Woodman left.

Byron Webster, who has been interim manager since then, will stay in the backroom team. The club thanked him for his professionalism.

Robinson takes charge before Saturday’s FA Cup first round tie at home to Rotherham United. The club says he is the first manager it has appointed as a member of the Football League.

Who Karl Robinson is

The club’s statement gives this record:

  • well over 700 competitive matches as a manager across the English Football League
  • automatic promotion to the Championship with MK Dons
  • League One campaigns with Charlton Athletic and Oxford United

What the club and its new manager said

Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves said he led the recruitment himself, starting the day after Woodman left.

“From the outset, my intention was to find someone who had worked at this level and had the experience and qualities to take Bromley Football Club on the next stage of its journey,” he said.

Robinson said: “What Robin, the board, and everyone associated with the Ravens have built over recent years is remarkable.”

He added: “We are here to compete, raise standards, and push this club forward in League One every single day.”

The statement names no assistant manager, although some outlets have reported one. Reports this week have also linked the club with a takeover. The club’s news feed carried no statement on that on 5 November.

What it means for you

Robinson’s first game should be Bromley v Rotherham United at the CopperJax Community Stadium, Hayes Lane, on Saturday 7 November at 3pm. Season tickets are not valid for the cup tie, so every fan needs to buy a ticket.

The club says online prices rise from midnight the day before the match. There is no supporter parking at the stadium, and Bromley South station is about a 20-minute walk away.

Saturday is also the club’s remembrance fixture:

  • serving personnel and veterans will form a guard of honour before kick-off
  • a bugler will play The Last Post, followed by a minute’s silence
  • the Mayor of Bromley will attend
  • food and drink are 20% off for anyone showing a veteran card or Armed Forces service ID

Fans holding tickets for the Notts County game on 14 November should note it has been postponed because of international call-ups. The club says tickets stay valid for the new date, which it has not yet set, and refunds are available through a form on that page.
