Andy Woodman has left Bromley FC after five and a half years, three trophies and two promotions. Byron Webster takes over for Saturday's Peterborough game.
Andy Woodman has left Bromley Football Club with immediate effect. The club says his contract was ended by mutual agreement.
Byron Webster will take charge of all first team affairs on an interim basis while the club appoints a permanent manager. The club confirmed both in a statement on its website on Thursday morning.
Several outlets have reported the departure as a sacking. The club’s own wording is “the mutual termination of his contract”.
What the club said
Robin Stanton-Gleaves, Bromley’s owner and chairman, thanked Woodman in the statement.
“I would firstly like to offer my sincere thanks to Andy for all he has achieved during his time with us,” he said. “It’s no surprise that this club has reached new heights and Andy has been fundamental in helping us achieve that.”
He added: “I would like to reassure our supporters that we will be entering this new chapter with the same ambition and determination to keep moving this football club forward.”
The club said Woodman leaves “with our deepest gratitude, three trophies to his name, and with the very best wishes of everyone at Bromley Football Club”.
Five and a half years at Hayes Lane
Woodman joined just over five and a half years ago. It was his first job as a manager. According to the club’s statement, his time in charge included:
- the FA Trophy, won at Wembley in his first full season
- promotion to the Football League for the first time in the club’s 132-year history, two years later, again at Wembley
- the League Two title earlier this year, taking Bromley into League One
- the League Two Manager of the Year award at the EFL ceremony for 2025/26
- the club’s first FA Cup third round, away at Newcastle United
- a Carabao Cup win on penalties over Championship side Ipswich Town the following season
The season so far
The last three months have been much harder. Bromley’s own fixtures and results show two wins from ten League One matches. The home game with Wycombe Wanderers on 3 October was postponed.
| Result | Matches |
|---|---|
| Won | 2 (Barnsley away, Huddersfield Town at home) |
| Drawn | 2 (Cambridge United at home, Blackpool away) |
| Lost | 6 |
| Goals for | 9 |
| Goals against | 25 |
That is eight points from ten games.
The team has lost its last five matches in all competitions, without scoring in four of them:
- Bromley 0, Brentford Under 21s 1 at home in the EFL Trophy, 22 September
- Crawley Town 4, Bromley 0 in the EFL Trophy, 6 October
- Mansfield Town 2, Bromley 1 in League One, 10 October
- Stockport County 1, Bromley 0 in League One, 17 October
- Bromley 0, Leicester City 4 at home in League One, on Tuesday night
Earlier in the season Bromley lost 7-2 at Sheffield Wednesday and 5-0 at home to Leyton Orient.
