Bromley FC are out of the FA Cup. League Two Rotherham United won 2-0 at the CopperJax Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, in Karl Robinson’s first game as manager.
Bromley play a division higher, in League One. The result sends Rotherham into the second round.
How the goals went in
The club’s own match report says Bromley started strongly. Michael Cheek, a late call-up after an injury to Victor Adeboyejo, had a header and a shot saved in the first half. A Bromley effort was also blocked off the line shortly before the break.
Then Rotherham scored:
- First half: Sonny Aljofree headed in, and the ball bounced into the bottom corner just before half-time.
- Second half: Tom Bradshaw took the ball round goalkeeper Shamal George and finished into an empty net.
Just after the hour, substitute Ethon Archer bent a shot against the bar. Rotherham hit the post at the other end, and the visitors saw the game out.
Robinson made several changes for the tie, the club said. They included the return of George after injury.
A new manager’s first afternoon
Robinson was appointed on Thursday, two weeks after Andy Woodman left. He spoke to the club’s own channel after the game; the interview is on BFCTV.
Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves set out the priority for the season the day before the tie. “We must establish our presence here in League One. That’s the first base, no matter what,” he said in a club interview. “We must remain in League One this year. No two ways about it.”
He said the club spoke to about 25 people before choosing Robinson from a shortlist of five.
