Free music, comedy, poetry and dance by Disabled performers at Bromley United Reformed Church, 1pm to 3pm on Saturday 21 November. BSL and captions provided.
Disability Pride returns to Bromley on Saturday 21 November, with an afternoon of Disabled talent that anyone can attend. It is free and runs from 1pm to 3pm at Bromley United Reformed Church, 20 Widmore Road, BR1 1RY.
The event is organised by Bromley Experts by Experience, known as X by X Bromley. Healthwatch Bromley shared the details on Wednesday and says the afternoon will include music, comedy, poetry and dance. This year’s line-up has not been published, and X by X says more details will follow.
Organisers say the aim is to showcase Disabled talent, encourage Disabled people to express their identity positively, and help break down stigma around disability. Last year’s event took place in October, and X by X’s own account of it includes Magpie Dance performing and a poetry reading.
One person who came to an earlier event told the organisers: “Attending this event increased my confidence and has helped me to see I can go out more.”
Access at the event
X by X says it aims to meet all access needs, and asks people to give as much notice as possible. It lists:
- British Sign Language interpretation
- captions
- help with transport if needed, on request in advance
- wheelchair access, with step-free entry and an accessible toilet
- free refreshments, with dietary needs to be given in advance
